During his younger days while peers were playing sports John would use blocks to build record stores for his Weebles. Fast forward to teenage years which he spent listening to all types of music and attending every concert possible. John got a B.A. from New York University then made his way to Harvard where he got his law degree. After passing the bar he crossed the Charles River to proudly serve as an unpaid intern for Rounder Records. It didn’t take the Founders (Ken Irwin, Bill Nowlin, and Marian Leighton-Levy) long to realize that Virant was never leaving. In 1997 they named him Rounder President where he has remained for the past 20 years, everyday feeling grateful for the opportunity to work with the finest talents in roots music.
