Si Kahn is best known in the bluegrass world for the songs he’s written or co-written that have been recorded by such artists as Dale Ann Bradley, the Dry Branch Fire Squad, Charles Sawtelle, Hazel Dickens, Kathy Mattea, the original Red Clay Ramblers and Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum. But few bluegrass artists and fans know that Si has also spent over 40 years as a song and scriptwriter for musical theatre, with seven shows that have been produced at such venues as the Tennessee, Milwaukee and Berkeley Repertory Theatres.
