You are ridiculously musically talented. Now what? In this Industry Overview, we'll take a look at what's needed to set yourself up for success in the music industry. Our panelists have experience with booking/promoting, publicity, social media, label representation, consulting, project management, artist management, and more. You'll hear from a complete DIY artist as well. Some reading material will be provided ahead of time so we can quickly get to practical application. Bring your questions and scenarios!
Stress and anxiety are issues with which we all struggle to varying degrees, but no one seems willing to discuss these problems and how to work past them. Whether on stage or behind the scenes, you are not alone in feeling overwhelmed. Led by some of the premiere figures in today’s bluegrass scene, this panel will be beneficial to everyone seeking help in handling the other “S-word."
Please join members of The Recording Academy® Nashville Chapter staff, Alicia Warwick, Executive Director, and Laura Crawford, Membership Manager, along with GRAMMY® winner Jerry Douglas, as they discuss the importance of being involved in The Recording Academy community. Find out how your participation in the GRAMMY Awards submission and voting process is critical to ensuring the best recordings each year receive a nomination. In addition to honoring artists during Music’s Biggest Night®, The Recording Academy supports creators through its many programs including MusiCares®, The GRAMMY Foundation® and important GRAMMY advocacy initiatives.
Interviewing -- a skill necessary for broadcasters, journalists, artists, and more. If interviewing is such a normal part of the business, why is it that so many are intimidated by the task, whether as the interviewer or the interviewee? This panel will focus on getting the most out of your next interview, and is intended for professional media hosts and artists who aim to deliver memorable, enticing, and socially-shareable interviews.
Bring a demo of your current “greatest hit” along with lyric sheets for our panel. Demos will be chosen at random as time allows; writers will remain anonymous. Our panel will give constructive critiques on composition and presentation.
IBMA isn’t an office in Nashville – it’s all of us, more than 2600 people in countries around the world who are passionately involved in the business of bluegrass music. Don’t miss this opportunity to sit down and discuss the state and future of the bluegrass music industry with the IBMA Board of Directors and membership. The Town Hall Meeting has its own time slot on the WOB schedule Thursday morning so everyone has a chance to attend.
This one is specifically for our ‘grassers who are under the age of 25. Look for it later in the week in our IBMA Youth Council room. Hosted by The Gibson Brothers at 2 pm Thursday.
Bring a new song to share! These are low-key performance and networking opportunities to meet potential co-writers and share what you’ve been working on. Each of our three Thursday afternoon circles will be hosted by a pair of our member writers.

Today’s presentation will be from directors and students of university-level bluegrass programs in Kentucky, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Ohio and North Carolina. This will be a great opportunity for prospective students and their parents to hear about bluegrass higher education programs, and to ask questions from directors as well as student band members.
Following brief presentations on the details of each college bluegrass program, we’ll enjoy some live music from some of their top student bands. Educators will come away from today’s session inspired with new ideas for their own programs focused on bluegrass and related types of roots music.
Thanks for supporting these important programs and students who are so important to the future of our music.
