The Andrew Collins Trio

Booth 411 (Wed-Thu)
For the last fifteen years Andrew Collins has been at the forefront of a Canadian acoustic movement, blazing new ground in modern roots music. Both as a solo recording artist, and a founding member of the Creaking Tree String Quartet and the Foggy Hogtown Boys, he has earned an impressive reputation, winning six Canadian Folk Music Awards and five Juno nominations.

In keeping with his ongoing exploration of new acoustic music, Andrew has teamed up with Mike Mezzatesta and James McEleney to form the Andrew Collins Trio. Committed to innovation, this ensemble has joined forces to create an original body of work that blurs the lines between bluegrass, jazz, old-time, folk, celtic and classical music. Invoking sounds of the past while evoking a distinct and fresh voice, Andrew’s original music is full of joy, innovation and a deep respect for what has come before.

Virtuosity is matched by versatility, as Andrew and Mike deftly trade off on mandolin, mandola, mandocello, fiddle and guitar, supported by James’ adroit bass playing. Their dynamic show is enhanced, with a repertoire of songs that draw from as many influences as their instrumentals, by Andrew’s elegant lead vocals and James’ soaring harmonies.
